If you follow my blog, then you know we have a ski house. What’s the best nearby, snow filled, winter weekend location… Vermont! West Dover, Vermont to be exact.

You already know what my house looks like so I won’t bore you with those photos or my usual long body of text. I’ll let these pictures do all the talking. Wait, I take that back, I’ll provide you with crib notes regarding the weekend.

Every year Mount Snow celebrates Mardi Gras. For some reason this, they cancelled it this year. That being, be decided to celebrate it at home.

We arrived at the house Thursday afternoon, went grocery shopping and then lounged in front of the fire place until it was time to go to bed. Friday, we spent all day on the snowmobiles, riding the trails behind our house. Saturday, went dogsledding in the morning with a friend, (lots & lots of fun). We then went up to the mountain for several hours and then came back to the house for some late day fun on the snowmobiles (yes, once again). Sunday, on the road by 1pm, heading home to NYC before the snow storm got too bad.

*Fun dog sledding video I captured, at the end of this post.

For our first full day in Tokyo, we decided to start the day off exploring the area close to our hotel. I picked a casual and what I thought was, a comfy outfit. Unfortunately, I missed the mark. Not in regard to styling, I wasn’t going for a stylish look. But in regard to picking out pieces that were right for the weather.

I believe the low temps of NYC made me forget what 54 and sunny feels like. After being outside for no more than 30 minutes, I started to run warm. I didn’t let that get in my way. The great thing about wearing layers, you can peel them off.

Zojoji Temple, built in the year 1393 and moved to its present location in 1598. The relocation was governed by Tokugawa Ieyasu and made it as his families temple. A mausoleum of the Tokugawa family can be found on the temple grounds. The main entrance gate to Zojoji Temple is the last remaining original structure on the property. It has survived many fires, earthquakes and wars. The remaining buildings are recent reconstruction.

On the grounds there’s a cemetery and here you can find rows of stone statues. These statues represent the unborn children of Japan. Including but not limited to miscarried and stillborn. Parents can choose a statue in the garden and decorate it with clothing and toys. Jizō, the guardian of unborn children ensures that they are brought to the afterlife.Zojoji Temple - Jizo Statues 3Zojoji Temple Grounds 2                            Mausoleum of Tokugawa Shoguns Family

Shiba-koen [park] is one of five public parks that have been restored. The park sits in the shadow of Tokyo Tower and is adjacent to the grounds of Zojoji Temple. I found the grounds to be peaceful and absolutely beautiful. I decided to use the strap from my Louis Vuitton Keepall luggage, seen Here and Here to make it a crossbody bag. Mission accomplished.

The time has come for me to say goodbye to Japan. We’ve had a great time exploring almost all of the land in Tokyo. We also took three-day trips and ventured to Osaka, Kyoto and Mt. Fuji. I even got to break bread and have drinks with two of my co-workers in our Tokyo office. And to my delight, a good friend flew to Tokyo from Shanghai to hang out for a few days.

Japan, you’ve been extremely kind and generous to me. Thank you for everything!

Few Japanese bloggers, thank you for reaching out to me with suggestions and for also offering to meet-up to do photo shoots. You guys are great!

Many many pictures to come.
