The rebirth of Burberry. Do you have pieces that you put in to retirement? I most certainly do and this scarf is the perfect example of that.

If you’re a Burberry fan and have been so for some time, you recognize this scarf. It must be 6-8yrs old by now. When the plaid Burberry scarf first became popular (mainstream popular), I received the classic camel color as one of my birthday gifts from mom. I lived in that scarf. About 10 months later I purchased myself the same scarf but in soft pink.

By the next winter season, this trend had exploded so much I couldn’t look at the scarf anymore. Did I think about tossing both pieces? Most certainly. Did I actually do it? No way. I simply folded them up and put them on the bottom of the scarf pile. They had a nice long rest but have come back out to play now.

After spotting a pair of Gucci leather studded gloves at Saks Fifth Avenue one evening, I had the DIY itch.

It’s rare that I wear a helmet when biking around the city, but if I do, I do it in a monogrammed helmet.

I’M BACK PEOPLE! Yes yes yes, I’ve been missing in action for almost two weeks now. Where have I been? I was held captive by my apartment and submerged in way too many boxes. I will discuss that more next week and hopefully have a few pictures of the new residence for you. Anyway…

Is it me or has mother nature been teasing us this spring season? She’s been so darn fickle. Here in NYC, one day it’s 70 degrees and the next it’s 45 degrees, drizzling, gloomy and down right chilly. That being said, how does one handle this erratic weather in terms of personal style? You make certain to keep your fall layering pieces within reach.

One of my favorite layering pieces, regardless of the season is my military jacket.

I believe it was Marc Jacobs who was quoted during the S/S 2015 runway show as saying, “military clothes are part of the fashion vernacular these days”. The man speaks the truth.

Take a moment, allow your thoughts to travel back in fashion history. Who and/or what gave this look legs? Such a dizzying evolution don’t you think. From an institutional emblem to a jacket that was worn by those clashing with the institution. Think of John and Yoko in their matching military surplus. And lets not forget Jane Fonda, she donned the utilitarian topper for antiwar rallies. Do you think these three icons knew their message would trickle down to the fashion world?

Keeping It Long, Sheer & Caged

Never forget, but you can push the LBD to the side. This seasons trend is the LBV, Little Black Vest. This new and longer silhouette is figure flattering on all shapes and sizes. If you’re trying to mask areas of your body that you don’t care for, this does the job. If you’re like me, and have a more straight up and down athletic shape, then belt the vest to create curves.

Another trend that is still going strong…… the midi skirt. This season there’s a little twist as it’s being made in leather, faux leather, wool & with accordion pleats. This 40’s post-war classic, redefined women’s style. However, it quickly disappeared when the feminist revolution hit and women wanted more freedom of expression. So happy it’s back.

(If you’re wondering why I’m referring to the skirt as midi, but it’s barely hitting me below my knee…… that’s because I’m 5’11 with a 34 inch leg inseam. Every skirt looks shorter than what it should be on me. Being tall, a blessing & a curse).

Considering the fall temps have hit New York City, layering has started to come in to play. What does one wear under a sleeveless vest when it’s 64 degrees out? A sheer long sleeve bodysuit. Coupled with my favorite pair of studded & spiked cage shoes, I was ready to hit the pavement.
