While packing for my recent holiday in Japan I thought, this is the perfect time to pull out that tulle skirt I’ve yet to wear. I purchased it around October of last year thinking I would wear it for New Year’s Eve but, I went with a different look.

So while on holiday, I decided to take a day for myself. I slept in late and a co-worker/friend came over to our hotel to hang out for a few hours. She wanted to see what my American style was like and so we went through my closet. She fell in love with this one skirt and I don’t blame her. First thing she said while ripping it off the rod….. Sex In The City!

I just stood there laughing. Then said, wait a minute, over in Harajuku all the girls wear tulle. She politely told me, the look isn’t the same. The tulle is pink or another vibrant color and styled very differently. My response, good point. I told her of my love for The Arts, how I minored in classical ballet in college, how once a week I student teach at BAE back in New York City and that tulle/tutu’s are in my blood. I was also sure to be polite when I informed her that several designers sent tulle down their spring 2013 runways. Naturally that caused a new trend and why we see so many bloggers wearing them the last few seasons.

Around the 5th night in to our stay, it was the perfect time to pull out this skirt. A trip to the Tokyo Skytree and then off to a wonderful dinner.

For our first full day in Tokyo, we decided to start the day off exploring the area close to our hotel. I picked a casual and what I thought was, a comfy outfit. Unfortunately, I missed the mark. Not in regard to styling, I wasn’t going for a stylish look. But in regard to picking out pieces that were right for the weather.

I believe the low temps of NYC made me forget what 54 and sunny feels like. After being outside for no more than 30 minutes, I started to run warm. I didn’t let that get in my way. The great thing about wearing layers, you can peel them off.

Zojoji Temple, built in the year 1393 and moved to its present location in 1598. The relocation was governed by Tokugawa Ieyasu and made it as his families temple. A mausoleum of the Tokugawa family can be found on the temple grounds. The main entrance gate to Zojoji Temple is the last remaining original structure on the property. It has survived many fires, earthquakes and wars. The remaining buildings are recent reconstruction.

On the grounds there’s a cemetery and here you can find rows of stone statues. These statues represent the unborn children of Japan. Including but not limited to miscarried and stillborn. Parents can choose a statue in the garden and decorate it with clothing and toys. Jizō, the guardian of unborn children ensures that they are brought to the afterlife.Zojoji Temple - Jizo Statues 3Zojoji Temple Grounds 2                            Mausoleum of Tokugawa Shoguns Family

Shiba-koen [park] is one of five public parks that have been restored. The park sits in the shadow of Tokyo Tower and is adjacent to the grounds of Zojoji Temple. I found the grounds to be peaceful and absolutely beautiful. I decided to use the strap from my Louis Vuitton Keepall luggage, seen Here and Here to make it a crossbody bag. Mission accomplished.
